Psychometric testingPsychometric testing is versatile and can be used as an aid for personnel selection and recruitment, career guidance, career development, team building and personal development. Used correctly, it can improve the match between employer and employee. Most tests take in the region of 30 minutes each, with the exception of the Morrisby Profile, which (because it is a battery of 12 tests) takes just over 3 hours in total. Psychometric testing can provide information on a candidate's relative strengths, personality profile, motivation, likely team role behaviour (Belbin) and many other characteristics - more rapidly and reliably than extensive interviewing. When making selection decisions, psychometric testing should be used as one of many sources of information, such as career history, qualifications, CVs and application forms. Research shows that the use of psychometric testing can significantly improve the match between the employer and the employee. In certain circumstances, these benefits can be improved even further when testing is used as part of a correctly designed and administered Assessment Centre. Psychometric testing is used by an increasing number of large and small companies who appreciate its cost effectiveness when compared to the hard, soft and human costs of selection errors. |
